For the past two February’s we’ve headed up to the Samoset Resort in Rockland for their Winter Vacation Activities. Timed with school winter vacation, the Samoset offers daily activities for kids that will keep them busy as their parents relax. They offer arts and crafts during the day, and movies at night. They also put on additional activities, such as turning one of their conference rooms into a petting zoo for a few hours as they did this year!
Outside, the Samoset puts together an ice skating rink. Bring skates for the kids as I don’t believe the Samoset rents them out anymore.
If you have snowshoes, bring them too. We had a blast this year just stomping around on their huge snow-covered lawn than heads down to the ocean. If you’re up to it, you can snowshoe down to the breakwater and walk out to Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse.
The Samoset also has a a wonderful indoor pool, which is always a win with our kids.
La Bella Vita is their in-house restaurant, and the location for their amazing breakfast buffets. Although pricey (you can get package deals that offer meals with your room, but it’s still a bit on the high side) you may find it worth it to have a few meals there. That way you don’t have to worry about heading into town for a meal. When you’re in uber-relaxation mode, never having to leave the resort is a wonderful thing. Their flatbread pizza is also a huge hit with the kids for lunch or dinner.
We’ve found 4 days, 3 nights to be a perfect length. A balance between having a chance to relax before the kids begin to get stir crazy.
You can also head out and visit neighboring towns and see local attractions.
